Abstract

According to PP no. 74 of 2001 concerning Management of Hazardous and Toxic Substances (B3), which is referred to as Hazardous and Toxic Substances or abbreviated as B3 are materials which, because of their nature and/or concentration and/or quantity, either directly or indirectly, can pollute and/or damage the environment, and or can endanger the environment, health, survival of humans and other living creatures. This research method is qualitative research using an analytical approach. The technique for determining informants used was purposive sampling. This research was conducted from January 2021 to June 2022. Data collection techniques were carried out by means of in-depth interviews, field observations and document review. Data processing is carried out by data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of this research can be stated that it appears that the management of B3 medical waste for the West Sumatra region is still not in accordance with the required technical provisions, including those related to the storage period of the waste when transported by transporters to processing locations on the island of Java. In the future, we can suggest that transporters can collaborate with incinerators in West Sumatra, so that the technical requirements for shelf life can be minimized. From an economic perspective, the costs that will be incurred will be much smaller than taking it to a processor on the island of Java.
